High Hopes in the French Alps

Snow Wonder…

First Snow

…it snowed! it’s been pretty cold the past couple of days, and the sky was looking quite heavy laden yesterday.  Always knew it would arrive, sooner or later! – It usually does… Yippee! it’s here and hopefully will stay, thoughts are now directed toward skiing, and more fun!! I know it might look a bit gloomy but, it’s still snowing!!  The thing is, if we’ve got it this low, it must be brilliant up high! Might be skiing this weekend?!

Dennis’ Birthday Day (26th)

Birthday Bowling

Well the weather has been a main topic of conversation world-wide, to the point that the most recent sports bra I’ve ordered is no longer in production due to a typhoon at the factory! and what with washed away bridges in Cumbria, flooded homes and all that dreadful stuff, we are more than grateful to be troubled with nothing more than a lack of snow, and a bit of gloomy weather! Being restricted to indoor pursuits, we decided to go bowling! What fun – we had a great time. Three games played in all, the first one was a complete disaster for me, although, I was just starting to get a feel for it, the second one, much better, and the third one much more consistent. Dennis won though, pah! – Still the last time I played a little man had to stand all the skittles back up, at the end of the lane!  Anyway, it was a fun filled time, the only thing missing was Duff beer! We had jelly and ice-cream, trifle, lovely birthday cake, and lashings of champers to wash it all down.  All in all it was one lovely day!

Fiz Rays

There hasn’t been much happening here recently, what with the weather! Snow comes and goes, no skiing just yet, even though we’ve got our lift passes. The rate things are going it looks like we might end up doing more flying than skiing!  Still, I’m sure it’ll change in it’s own good time. Here’s a pic I took early yesterday morning, when the first sunlight was catching the top of the Fiz mountains.

Lenny Particular

Lenticular

There was lenticular over the mountain this morning, not as if any of us were going to get anywhere near that sort of height this time of the year… It was flyable at Plaine Joux, where just a few locals were out for a chat! Seeings as we are in the wrong hemisphere to do any substantial flights, we at least managed to get our feet off the ground … enjoying a ‘bon plouf!’ Our friend Mathieu was there flying his Niviuk Arctik, he keeps us fuelled with beer and baguettes at Chedde landing in the summer.  To see more of todays photos, have a look in the gallery.

Lac Passy and More than a Plouf!

This is our local lake, Lac Passy. It was a beautiful morning so we decided to have a walk around it with Tizzy, our sweetheart of a dog. It was the first bright day after quite a few dark, gloomy days of locked in ceiling clouds. They did leave behind a lovely legacy though, of freshly fallen snow up high.

Lac Passy - Still Morning

We were so fortunate with the day that we managed to get an hours flight in this afternoon also!  Which is excellent this time of year. I was flying the Alpha 4 today, a happy little fun wing! :-)

Check out the gallery for a few of the days photos.
