High Hopes in the French Alps

Plaine Joux & Agy

view from Agy launch

Back to ‘work’ today. We have a couple of clients who are here for a few days and this morning we flew Plaine Joux. Cloud was low over Chamonix with a relatively strong Northerly so Plaine Joux was the best option.

Dennis flying 'heavy' on small glider... conditions strong!

Difficulty was not in going up! Around mid afternoon, it all started getting a bit strong so we decided to give it a go later. After a couple of morning flights we went up again although we were expecting a ‘backwind’ but hoping for it not to be. As expected it was, so we opted for a lesser known site which works brilliantly in the evening.

Agy, turned out to be quite windy so being light on the glider wouldn’t have made such a pleasant experience but Dennis flew one of our small school gliders, he is well over the weight so could afford to fly in the stronger conditions. One other guest who also had the added advantage of weight had a pleasant evening flight too, but the light weights decided it wouldn’t be that fun a flight. Agy is a lovely site, small but potent! It’s a favourite acro site as climb outs are easy so they have ample opportunity to practice their manouvres and climb up to try again. Also the different views are great!
