Rain’s Stopped Play
Unfortunately no flying today. It was possible first thing through to late morning but when we got to launch, after some classroom stuff, it was looking pretty dark all around the valley so we were pretty much cornered! The weather was marching in from all quarters although the tandems, and a few understandable and with the greatest of respect ’desperates’ squeezed in a flight just as the rain arrived. We decided to keep our gliders dry on this occassion.
Couldn’t blog yesterday as the server had been down for most of the day, and has only recently been back up. At least yesterday we all got our feet of the ground, it was very stable in the morning, and try as I might I couldn’t get a climb out, I clocked one glider that managed some height scraping across from Chamonix but that was it. Everyone who took off at the same time as me were all having a difficult time trying to climb out, and we all ended up landing. The second time, it was much easier…. Dennis’s turn then, so I missed it!
The wind has picked up now but may well blow itself out by the morning, here’s hoping for not such an early bird flight tommorow!

Autumn Is Upon Us
Autumn is definately here, with the treetops all turning, the temperature dipping, a regular dampness in the morning, and condensation on the windscreens. The snow has made a fleeting appearance , settling on Varan, and the surrounding mountains although then disappearing… just a minor taste of things to come. Our flying has now taken on the more serene character of gentle air and mild soaring. It is all still very enjoyable as what we don’t have in the spring and summer months in the shape of strong thermals and xc potential, we make up for in the sheer beauty of the changing landscape and the depth of colour, artists revel in. So here’s to welcoming in all the changes that mother natures offers….. We are still flying, but just scraping climb outs now.
