High Hopes in the French Alps

Avant Cham, Après Chalet

Windy forecast but Dennis decided to stick with Plan A and go to meet Stewart in Chamonix early before the wind took hold. As Stewart will be mainly flying in Chamonix it was a good idea to get him launching and landing in both the landing fields. So up at Plan Praz around 9.30 am and getting two flights in was an achievement given the wind forecast. I decided I didn’t want to rush round so early and went out to meet them at Chedde later. On the drive over I noticed the wind had picked up considerably in the valley and did wonder if the westerly had arrived.

At the coffee shop rendezvous we went straight up to launch, getting caught in traffic, it seems there’s a diversion causing all the jamming on the narrow road up to Plaine Joux.  Anyway, partway up we could see the trees bending in submission to the Westerly, and gliders getting pinned going back with vertical downward motion, it was barely worth continuing up the mountain. We turned ’round and came back down. Dennis did some more Reverse Launch practice with Stewart, as is still needed.  I came back to the chalet and laundry…

No pics today, have since discovered that the camera shop have no idea when they will be getting a delivery of my order so have now had to cancel…. search resumes!
