High Hopes in the French Alps

Free Jewels!

It was looking good this morning. An early start with two more recruits and we were away up to Plaine Joux for more training. John joined us again and both he and Gary had five good flights. Considering it’s October it felt like mid-summer with the temperatures. The trees were looking glorious with  jewelry box topaz, rubies, emeralds, golds and glints of copper of differing depths lightening up the landscape.

I managed to get a fly today, and enjoyed the Omega 8 again. It felt great, quite different to the first flight I had on it. Lovely glide and great turns. Whilst flying I noticed another Omega 8, same colour and harness for that matter, so I just had to go and have a bit of a fly by. We thermalled together for  a short time. When we landed I was given a very nice compliment about my flying, which I appreciated very much, it’s good to get encouragement. Sometimes working all the time it’s easy to forget that you’re any good compared with  ‘proper’ pilots, it’s just that the opportunities are not as plentiful as one imagines.  I would really like to have a few more flights on the Omega 8, maybe another go tomorrow.

It turned out to be quite a busy day, with lots going on for most of the day.
