High Hopes in the French Alps

Missed Film Fodder

Another good day today although a lot more stable, barely any cumulus except for a few animated puffs much to far away, they didn’t last long either. It was nice air though, smooth as silk with enough latent heat to keep the thermals working albeit very gently, but that’s to be expected this time of year.

Our clients had another five flights today completing more tasks. Gary is keeping a blog of his experiences… Chasing the Wind  Along  an entertaining read I’ll put it up on the links menu too.

I didn’t get any shots today far to busy! Shame really as there certainly was a lot of ‘what not to do’ on launch demonstrations, lots of colour and a plethora of wings of all shapes and sizes: Speedwings, Bip Bip’s, Little Cloud’s the regular xc gliders, and loads of lightweights. The Kortel Karver was on display attached to another whizzy lightweight… and a questionable tandem?! Looked extremely small for a tandem, and Dennis had to point out that the pilot in charge had got his riser twisted! There were some amazing launches, horseshoes, spectators getting dumped on, loads just getting away with it, in fact there was so much camera fodder it could have kept me busy for hours!

I had another flight on the O8 and again it was really enjoyable. Nice launch a bit of a climb although when I took off it was a bit late in the day but I had a nice time thermalling with Chris, who’s just returned from the PWC in Turkey, all fired up and raring to go. He did outclimb me and glided off. I tried to keep up but I reckon he caught a bubble and I missed it, drat! Still When we landed he jokingly asked if I didn’t want to go with him?!  I tried!

The plan is to do some competition practice flying. He’s off to La Reunion on the 29th October for another leg of the French Open, he asked if I was going, I have to admit it did cross my mind!

Anyway, the plan is to fly a bit more together and gen up on more competition flying tasks just between us all here. We’ll see how it goes.
