High Hopes in the French Alps

Messy Clouds, Messy Movie

Bit of a messy sky today… lenticulars, fractus wind layers all a bit of a pre-frontal mish mash, but all that was going on way above our heads, from where we were standing it was nicely flyable.  No commitments so just flying for ourselves.

I was looking forward to getting back on the Mantra. It’s Saturday so we were expecting it to be quite busy, not so, not many at all. We wanted to get out and fly today because it looks like it’ll be the only day for a while. The snow is forecast to around 1100 meters from tonight/tomorrow and later this afternoon the high sky was moving in with purpose.

There were just a couple of people on launch who soon cleared, Dennis then launched and I was faffing about trying to figure out how to mount my camera to attempt to make a flying vid… so was left alone on launch, which was just sweet… the whole launch all to myself, what a delight!

I took off and didn’t catch much of anything, but really enjoyed being back on the Mantra. Flew with a couple of other gliders but not for long, it was all over far too soon. Still, getting used to how to set the camera up it seems it’s going to take a bit longer using the tried and tested trial and error method to get it right. Got some footage not much, but will have a go at editing it to see if I can piece together anything worthwhile.
