High Hopes in the French Alps

Low Snow..

Still living in the dark grey stuff. Clammy, cold and happy to stay in the warm and cosy, snugggling up next to the fire with a good book and only venturing out for the odd bit of shopping, although I did put an order in for a couple of ski helmets down at the local Au Vieux Campeur shop. They are due to arrive at the end of the week or beginning of next if all goes to plan.

snow almost down to the valley floor

We decided that the extra covering and warmth that the helmet would provide would be better than a woolly hat, not to mention the protection. Also have decided to go for the ones with visors, because I’ve lost so many pairs of sunglasses over the years it may turn out to be a good idea?! The fuller coverage could be good when stuck on exposed chairlifts if it’s snowing heavily, and the visors are removable should glasses or goggles be preferred.

Anyway, we’ll see what happens. The snow is certainly the lowest it’s been so far, almost down to the valley floor so there might be a possibility that some of the higher areas may open this weekend. Problem is that the whole world will be up there so early in the season and it’s hardly worth it for the queues, better to wait until more areas open. This cold weather makes me feel like baking cakes, pies and everything to put on an extra layer for the winter, like all the sensible animals, but then again have just invested in new mid-layer jacket for that!
